A grey, miserable day and rather than push it with cycling again, I’ve opted for the local Costa. #learningtodraw

Slowly going this morning thanks to a group of mums with their (literally) screaming kids on the next table. #learningtodraw

More life poses because my brain is struggling with anything requiring thought. #learningtodraw

A couple of faces to finish off. #learningtodraw

That’s it for today. Nothing special but I turned up and did it which is a win. #learningtodraw

Made it out on my bike for the first time this year. Still not 100% healthy but the ride hasn’t killed me. #learningtodraw

My technique has improved massively but my drawings are still missing that ‘zing’. Need to practice ‘art’ not just drawing. #learningtodraw

Experiments in style band technique. #learningtodraw

Initial pencils for today’s soluble graphite piece. #learningtodraw

First wash applied and second pencils awaiting their wash. #learningtodraw

Still struggling with a cough / cold on this damp and misty morning and my brain is struggling. #learningtodraw

My lack of brain means there is no plan to today’s work. Just going wherever the pencil goes. #learningtodraw

More life poses because that’s all my brain can cope with today. #learningtodraw

Faces from photos. #learningtodraw

Random doodles. No, I don’t know what they are. #learningtodraw

People, faces and random crap from my brain. That’s today’s #learningtodraw

Various one, five, ten and twenty min poses from last night’s life drawing with @LifeDrawNottm #learningtodraw

Warning up on a cold, cold morning. #learningtodraw

I always suffer a ‘hangover’ from a good life drawing class. Next day I can’t get back in the zone and everything is stilted #learningtodraw

A couple of faces. #learningtodraw

Initial pencils for this morning’s soluble graphite sketch. #learningtodraw

I tried this image because of all the folds. Turns out (unsurprisingly) I need to put a lot more effort in to get them right #learningtodraw

Three quick animals using my new @DalerRowney paint markers. I’ve filled them with pen ink for now and like using them. #learningtodraw

That’s everything for today’s #learningtodraw session. Now for lunch and some proper work.

I’m feeling ok today. It must be the curative powers of last night’s wine. We will see how well that last night’s #Learningtodraw

Some not appalling life poses. Not quite capturing the ‘life’ aspects but better than the last few days. #learningtodraw

Rough layout sketches for the Sewer Trump image. Trying to get a dramatic angle which also gets the sewer tunnel vibe. #learningtodraw

Couple more rough layouts for the Trump Sewer image. I inked the second one to get the feel of how much dark / light I need. #learningtodraw

Reindeer sketches, thinking of Christmas card designs. #learningtodraw

Done for the day. Nothing good quality wise, but lots of rough sketches and preliminary work. Constructive, not spectacular. #learningtodraw

Another day of brain funk but at least I’ve made it out on my bike on a very grey day. #learningtodraw

Very preliminary sketches of my next “finished” image. Yes, I am drawing trump. #learningtodraw

A page of shit, sorry Trump. #learningtodraw

Roughing out potential background and layouts for the Trump image – sewers. #learningtodraw

More rough layouts, mostly thinking about light and dark. #learningtodraw

Mostly shit, figuratively and literally, but laying the groundwork for better things on future days. #learningtodraw More tomorrow.

Really struggling with my brain today, focus and precision a challenge so warming up with a big fat graphite crayon. #learningtodraw

Life poses in 9B Graphitkreide, which I think means crayon or possibly water soluble crayon. #learningtodraw

Something I’m experimenting with at the moment is heavily editing photos if my drawings. Sometimes the effects are pleasing. #learningtodraw

More graphite crayon experiments. This time I’ve added water to utilise the water soluble feature. #learningtodraw

Another page of experiments with the water soluble graphite plus some ink wash. #learningtodraw

Experimenting with different approaches to inking, using small solid black lines plus patches of wash. #learningtodraw

Ink experiments. Trying to find a lighter, finer and less outlined style but my instinct is to slap fat lines down. #learningtodraw

Very quick doodles (the coffeeshop is closing). #learningtodraw

Round-up of today’s #learningtodraw. Like my brain it lacked focus but fun to do an entire session just to going where the pencil takes me.

Ug. Brain not working today after a crappy night’s sleep. Anyway, i’ve made it out and here’s the warm-up page. #learningtodraw

Bad drawings from a bad brain. #learningtodraw

Not totally shit. #learningtodraw

Some days, you eat the bear. Some days, the bear eats you. #learningtodraw

Oh look, more life poses. #learningtodraw

More life poses. I even like some of these. #learningtodraw

All of today’s #learningtodraw. There’s been a bit of theme today. Not intentional, just what my misfiring brain allowed me to do.

Warm-up work at Costa on a grey morning. #learningtodraw

Life poses in 4B graphite. #learningtodraw

Started work on the second coat of ink washes, building on the work I did yesterday. #learningtodraw

Most of the wash is done, now time for finishing details. #learningtodraw

Finished! I’ll do a proper scan when I get home but I don’t think more work will make it better. Very useful exercise. #learningtodraw

Quick animal sketches to finish the session. #learningtodraw

Done for the day. #Learningtodraw

Scanned version of the Porcelain Ghost. #learningtodraw

Dull, faintly miserable weather which fits with my mode this afternoon. Regardless I’m buckling down and getting on with #learningtodraw

Life poses in 4B graphite, from reference. #learningtodraw

Testing different combinations of ink wash. #learningtodraw

Starting pencils for the final version of Porcelain Ghost. #learningtodraw

Tone added to the pencils. Now going to take a break and get more coffee before I apply the initial ink wash. #learningtodraw

First base wash of the final Porcelain Ghost image. Slowly working out how to get consistent cover and tone. #learningtodraw

Quick animal sketches. #learningtodraw

Finishing off with a few more quick animals but this time in brush pen done fast & loose. #learningtodraw

All my work today. Good progress of the final version of Porcelain Ghost and solid practice on human & animal forms. #learningtodraw
