Sajidah Ahmad

I had the pleasure of doing a portrait session with Saj who is standing for the council in this year’s elections. We had never met before but she had seen my work and reached out about a doing a session together.

Saj wanted a range of shots she could use professionally on leaflets or for press releases etc so we did some shots in the centre of Nottingham and then went out to Wollaton Hall.

The challenge with these types of jobs is to strike the balance between a formal image which tend to be cold and distant, and something informal which imparts more of the person. Particularly with clients like Saj who are nervous, which tends to make people stiff and unnatural. So a lot of my work is about getting the client to relax and to capture those moments when they stop thinking about the camera and reveal the ghost in the shell.
